Career: Direct Support Professional Supervisor

Summary

The Direct Support Professional Supervisor will be responsible for a variety of duties related to the overall care of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). 

This includes direct care of our Day Hab. Program individuals and implementation of their Life Plans, Behavior Support Plans, and Staff Action Plans. 

The SDSP will serve as role model and mentor for the DSP staff regarding personal care needs for the individuals.

Duties And Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities of the Direct Support Professional Supervisor are, but may not be limited to:

  • Provide oversight and supervision of the Activity Classroom; as well as develop Staff Action Plans and review/sign-off on monthly reports and Individual Service Sheets.
  • Assist the Program Director with assessing the DSP staff for strengths and weaknesses in the overall performance of their jobs.
  • Ensure and encourage meaningful interactions between participants and community.
  • Establish a secure, positive environment that nurtures participants’ needs, self-expression and goals.
  • Ensure implementation of individuals’ Life Plans (behavioral plan goals), Staff Action Plans, and documents outcomes accurately and timely.
  • Promote independence in daily living activities such as, personal hygiene, money management, work ethics, learning and leisure.
  • Serve as advocate for individuals to ensure their rights are protected and encourage positive community relations.
  • Maintain and/or update behavioral assessments, daily activity logs, and monthly reports.
  • Report all incidents and occurrences as classified by the NYS Justice Center and Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD); as well as any safety issues and injuries immediately to the supervisor/manager and other appropriate authorities.

  • Responsible for safeguarding individuals’ and agency funds and maintaining accurate records of expenditures.
  • Attend all mandatory meetings and trainings.
  • Perform related duties as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree or an Associate Degree with 1-2 years of experience working with the IDD population; OR 5 years’ experience working with the IDD population at SEBNC.
  • Must have a keen sense of observation and maintain composure under pressure. 
  • Must be dependable and punctual; as well as have excellent interpersonal skills, very good writing skills, and a strong sense of teamwork.
  • CPR and First Aid certificates required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

Physical Abilities

Ability to see at normal distance, hear normal conversations and sounds. Physical ability to bend, squat, sit on floor, climb stairs, skip and run. 

Use hands and fingers to fill out required forms on regular paper and use computer keyboard and other office machines/equipment. 

Ability to safely and occasionally lift 40 lbs. to 100 lbs., when needed.
