Summary
Reporting to and working closely with the Executive Director, the Associate Executive Director (AED) will play a pivotal role in leading key initiatives.
As a member of the leadership team, the AED’s focus will be to develop, direct, and implement agency-wide strategies and processes. The AED is a key liaison between Programs, Operations and Development; and will interact with all internal departments, leading all program focused activities.
Duties And Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities of the Associate Executive Director are, but may not be limited to:
– PROGRAM LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT
- Oversight of all funded Programs to ensure services provided meet the various needs of the community and SEBNC’s service recipients. This includes programs funded by: NYS Office for People with developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), NYS Dept. of Education (DOE), and Dept. of Youth & Community Development (DYCD).
- Direct supervision of eight (8) Program Directors & Managers within SEBNC’s developmental disabilities, child education and youth services programs.
- Through effective communication and strategic planning, work with Program Directors/Managers to develop & strengthen clear short-term & long-term programmatic goals & policies;
- Lead and direct Program Directors/Managers in setting timelines for evaluation, development, and implementation of all services.
- Encourages collaboration between departments as appropriate while utilizing program space effectively.
- Set organizational meeting and check-in structures on all levels; facilitating all program department meetings while creating structure for staff calendars and internal meetings.
- Implement practices and develop new policies that reinforce SEBNC values, promote professional well-being, staff retention and long-term staff sustainability.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations; maintaining sharp knowledge of the latest trends in nonprofit governance.
- Monitor the effectiveness of each Program to ensure Program and Agency-wide goals are met.
- Ensure effective systems are in place to measure the quality of programs and services provided.
- Work with and support the ED and Development Manager (DM) in developing and implementing strategies related to communications and marketing, including website and donor database.
- Act as spokesperson for the Agency as required.
- In the absence of the ED, the AED will serve as SEBNC’s administrator in charge.
- The AED is considered a mandated reporter under NYS Mandated Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse and Maltreatment/Neglect law and is required to comply with the regulations therein.
– FINANCIAL PLANNING
- Assist the Executive Director (ED) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in developing an annual budget and managing resources efficiently and effectively.
- Work with Directors/Managers to create program budgets, offering a critical eye regarding various assumptions and deliver an organization-wide program budget based on input from each program.
- Provide strategic recommendations to the ED based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and revenue expense analysis.
- Work with the ED and DM to align financial management with short-term and long-term fundraising planning and projections.
– BOARD OF DIRECTORS LIAISON
- The AED works with the ED to ensure the Board of Directors (BOD) is kept informed of matters and developments that warrant their attention.
- Assist the ED with providing information and recommendations for deciding policy and maintaining records of policy decisions.
- Assist the ED with preparing reports to the BOD.
- In the absence of the ED, the AED will attend BOD meetings.
Qualifications and Skills
Must have a Master in Business Administration (MBA) degree, as well as substantive experience working with developmental disabilities population, public administration, or social/human services and 6-8 years related work experience.
At least 5 years of work experience should be in upper-management and/or administration, preferably in a team setting. Early childhood education, child development preferred.

Physical Abilities
Ability to see at normal distance, hear normal conversations and sounds. Physical ability to bend, squat, sit on floor, climb stairs, skip and run.
Use hands and fingers to fill out required forms on regular paper and use computer keyboard and other office machines/equipment. Ability to safely and occasionally lift up to 50lbs., when needed.
