Southeast Bronx Neighborhood Centers Inc. (SEBNC) is a nonprofit 501(c) 3 multi-service agency that has served the Morrisania section of Bronx, New York since 1929. We serve multi-ethnic populations that are rich in diversity and cultural heritages. We offer programs and services for all ages, including infants, school-aged children, young adults and the developmentally disabled.
Position Description and Essential Responsibilities
We are seeking a full-time Educational Director to work in our Family Child Care Network program (FCCN). The Education Director will support and enhance the existing strengths of family child care in birth-4 year programs that promote continuous and responsive relationships, strengthen early learning skills, build resilience and lay the foundation for all future learning.
His/her primary role is to oversee all of FCCN’s educational services for families and affiliated providers; which will include the supervision and mentoring of other educational staff; as well as, support provider coaching, child assessments, authentic assessments and serve special populations. The essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee all educational services in affiliated FCCN settings to ensure compliance with Dept. of Education (DOE) and Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS).
- Supervise the work of all FCCN education staff (e.g. Educational Specialist & Family Worker).
- Develop, adapt and provide guidance to affiliated providers on the implementation of evidence-based curriculum for mixed-age group settings that meets the individual needs of all children.
- Create, review and adapt appropriate curriculum supports that foster hands-on develop mentally appropriate and relationship-based interactions with all children.
- Provide strength-based coaching visits to all affiliated provides to ensure adherence curriculum guidelines and implementation.
- Ensure that all affiliated provider home visits are documented in a timely manner and are aligned with the DOE’s Early Childhood Framework for Quality (EFQ).
- Ensure education staff have the knowledge and skills to assist the affiliated providers in entering child assessment data in a timely manner and support its use for curriculum and lesson planning.
- Coordinate and implement all required professional learning days throughout the year in partnership with the DOE for all affiliated providers and education staff.
- Provide consistent and timely reflective supervision to education staff to ensure their ability to engage affiliated providers in practice-based coaching using a strength-based approach.
Qualifications and Skills
- MSED degree in early childhood education and a NYS teacher certification with 2-3 years related work experience is required.
- At least 1 year of work experience should be in a managerial capacity, preferably in a team setting.
- Knowledge of New York City childcare and early learning systems, city, state and federal early learning policies; as well as admissions processes.
- Experience working with diverse low income and homeless populations preferred.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills required with demonstrated ability to relate sensitively to children, parents and staff.
- Excellent listening skills with ability to give, receive feedback.
Physical Abilities
See at normal distance; hear normal conversations & sounds; bend, squat, sit on floor, climb stairs, skip & run. Use hands & fingers to fill out required forms on paper and use computer keyboard & office equipment. Safely lift or assist children weighing up to 40 lbs. as needed.
Other Requirements
Must submit to job-pertinent examinations including tuberculosis test and criminal record background checks after a conditional offer of employment is made. Employment is conditional pending satisfactory results of required tests, etc.
Salary Range & Benefits:
$63k to $70k annually. SEBNC offers a benefits package that includes: paid holidays, PTO (vacation, personal, sick); health, dental & vision and 401(k).
