Southeast Bronx Neighborhood Centers Inc. (SEBNC) is a nonprofit 501(c) 3 multi-service agency that has served the Morrisania section of Bronx, New York since 1929. We serve multi-ethnic populations that are rich in diversity and cultural heritages. We offer programs and services for all ages, including infants, school-aged children, young adults and the developmentally disabled.

Position Description and Essential Responsibilities

We are seeking a full-time Health/Nutrition/Safety Monitor Specialist to work in our Family Child Care Network program (FCCN). The Health/Nutrition/Safety Monitor Specialist will provide professional expertise in the areas of health, nutrition and safety. H/she will develop and/or ensure the maintenance of appropriate procedures for the delivery of child health, safety and nutritional services.

H/she will also provide monthly home visits to all affiliated providers. The essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Develop and/or maintain written health, environmental safety, sanitation, food service and emergency policies and procedures that are acceptable and approved in compliance with local, state, federal regulations. Ensure high quality and individualized services are delivered for children and families consistent with program requirements. Ensure that children receive medical, dental, nutrition and lead screenings in accordance with Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) nutrition regulations.
• Monitor status of children’s health (inclusive of dental, eye, allergies, etc.) safety and nutritional services; and ensure appropriate record keeping of relevant data and documents related to all findings.
• Develop, adapt and provide guidance to affiliated providers on the implementation of evidence-based curriculum for mixed-age group settings that meets the individual needs of all children.
• Build alliances with community health and nutrition stakeholders in order to create interagency linkages that meet the needs of the children and their families.
• Provide training and technical assistance to staff based on assessment of health, safety and nutrition service area needs.

Qualifications and Skills

• Associate degree or Child Development Associate credential with at least 1 year of experience working with families with young children. 
• Knowledge of young children’s food requirements according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture and U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Administration of Children and Families and the Office of Head Start and Child Care Food Program regulations.
• Knowledge of NY licensing and CACFP Nutrition regulations, Food Handlers and First Aid/CPR certifications required.
• Ability to relate well with children and parents from diverse cultural, high risk, low income and/or homeless populations. Must have excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills; as well as good interpersonal skills with the ability to work within prescribed timeline and as part of a team, Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

Physical Abilities

See at normal distance; hear normal conversations & sounds; bend, squat, sit on floor, climb stairs, skip & run. Use hands & fingers to fill out required forms on paper and use computer keyboard & office equipment. Safely lift or assist children weighing up to 40 lbs. as needed.

Other Requirements

Must submit to job-pertinent examinations including tuberculosis test and criminal record background checks. Employment is conditional pending satisfactory results of required tests, etc.

Salary Range & Benefits:

$32k to $38k annually. SEBNC offers a benefits package that includes: paid holidays, PTO (vacation, personal, sick); health, dental & vision and 401(k).
