DESCRIPTION:Dear CEC Friend\, \nI’m excited to inform you that the voting phase of the annual “The People’s Money” citywide participatory budgeting process is now officially open. Until June 12th\, all New York City residents ages 11 and older\, regardless of immigration status\, will be able to vote on how to spend $3.5M of city funds to address community needs. \nAll New Yorkers have the opportunity to vote on a ballot for their home borough. Residents can vote online by inputting their zip codes. Paper ballots will also be available citywide at sites listed on Participate.nyc.gov. After June 12th\, ballots will be tabulated\, and winning projects will be announced. Implementation of selected projects will begin later this year\, by community organizations to be selected through a competitive process. \nThis year’s campaign\, “Play Your Part: Your Money\, Your Community\, Your Vote\,” centers The Sunnies\, playful yellow sculptures that represent optimistic New Yorkers who care about each other and their community. Throughout the voting period\, The Sunnies will be installed at public locations throughout New York City\, including libraries\, parks\, and halls\, to generate excitement and inspiration among everyday New Yorkers to become engaged in “The People’s Money” process and beyond. The Sunnies project was developed by CEC’s Artist in Residence Yazmany Arboleda and brought to life in partnership The People’s Creative Institute who commissioned a group of immigrant mothers from Colombia\, Ecuador\, El Salvador\, Mexico\, and Venezuela. \nDemocracy is made by people who participate\, and “The People’s Money” is the City’s widest doorway to democracy. We invite you to vote and also spread the word about this opportunity for all New Yorkers 11 years and older\, regardless of citizenship status\, wherever they live in New York City\, to help us make them partners in decisions that impact their lives. Additionally\, UNH staff will be in Albany that day to reinforce our message. We have room for a small delegation to join us; if you are interested\, please let Tara know at tklein@unhny.org. \nWorking Families Tax Credit Advocacy \nUNH is part of a campaign to create a Working Families Tax Credit\, which would combine the Empire State Child Credit\, Earned Income Tax Credit\, and the dependent exemption into a new tax credit that also increases the value for families. \nSupport for this campaign has come from the research with Educational Alliance that many settlement houses participated in to study the impacts of the expanded federal Child Tax Credit. \nOur most recent report details that families are still struggling without the expanded CTC\, and New York State can lead on this issue to alleviate child poverty absent action from Washington The Working Families Tax Credit is a standalone bill\, S.277A (Gounardes)/A.4022B (Hevesi)\, but ideally it will be included in the FY24-25 NYS Budget given its fiscal implications. \nWe want to spread the word about this potential reform and also share an FYI about the recent expansion of the Empire State Child Credit. \nAttached to this email you can find a one pager on both of these: \n\nAn informational flyer on the expanded Empire State Child Credit\, which for the first time is available to families with children under age 4\, and\nA flyer on the Working Families Tax Credit advocacy campaign with a call to action to support the campaign.\n\nWe hope you will consider putting these flyers out in your settlement house\, especially if you are doing tax prep events this tax season. There is also a calculator that individuals can fill out to see what their current refunds are\, versus what they would be under the WFTC. \nThe campaign is also hosting a lobby day in Albany on February 27\, if you are interested in joining.

DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Tremont Health Action Center is partnering with SAVED 4 Life Cancer Corporation (S4LCC) to host a FREE mammogram bus and community closet at: \n1826 Arthur Avenue\, Bronx 10457 \nThursday\, July 13th\, 2023 \n9:30 AM to 4:30 PM. \nFREE Mammography screening eligibility is as follows: \n\nWomen aged 40 -79.\nThey must live in New York City.\nHave not had a mammogram in the last 12 months.\nAre not pregnant or breastfeeding\, and do not have breast implants\nPatients who have received a COVID-19 vaccine\, should schedule their appointment 6 weeks after their second dose. A common side-effect of the vaccine is swollen underarm lymph nodes. To prevent call backs\, it is recommended that women wait 4- 6 weeks to screen.\n\nAppointments can be made now by contacting Mrs. Travis Thomas by text at 914-200-4505 or calling 877-628-9090.
