Summary
The Custodian will be responsible for general cleaning and protection of the building; as well as, keeping it maintained and in good condition.
The Custodian will perform a variety of maintenance and cleaning tasks including basic repairs, operating cleaning equipment and maintaining cleaning supplies.
Duties And Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities of the Custodian are, but may not be limited to:
- Cleans the building by collecting and disposing of trash, sweeping/mopping/stripping/waxing floors.
- Operates and maintains equipment such as vacuums and floor cleaners.
- Perform minor repairs (replacing broken switches, changing light bulbs, painting, fixing door handles and leaks, etc.).
- Notify program of any major repairs needed, such as, structural issues and where highly skilled tasks are required.
- Safely mixes various cleaning agents/solutions to remove stains and clean surfaces.
- Responsible for cleaning restrooms and replenishing supplies such as toilet paper, soap and paper towels.
- Maintains a level of security in the building such as locking doors after operating hours.
- Responds to urgent situations, such as spills, that require quick action.
- Ordering cleaning supplies and equipment and always maintains an appropriate stock.
- Makes recommendations to enhance the safety and cleanliness conditions of the facility.
- Performs outdoor upkeep as necessary, including mowing grass, shoveling snow, maintaining entrances and walkways.
- Perform related duties as needed.
Qualifications and Skills
- High School Diploma or general educational diploma (GED) with 1-2 years of experience working as a custodian, janitor or maintenance person.
- Must be skilled in the use of hand and power tools; as well as ability to use common tools such as hammers, saws, drills and wrenches.
- Must have strong time management skills and ability to maintain focus while working individually.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
Physical Abilities
Ability to see at normal distance, hear normal conversations and sounds. Physical ability to bend, squat, sit on floor, climb stairs, skip and run.
Use hands and fingers to fill out required forms on regular paper and use computer keyboard and other office machines/equipment.
Ability to safely lift objects weighing up to 50lbs., when needed. Ability to climb ladders and work from heights.
