Summary
The Assistant Residence Manager will be responsible for assisting the Residence Manager with overseeing the daily operations of the residence and the activities of the individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) during all shifts.
This person will assist with ensuring the documentation and implementation of the individuals’ Life Plans, Behavior Support Plans, and Staff Action Plans.
Duties And Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities of the Assistant Residence Manager are, but may not be limited to:
- Assist with supervision of the Direct Care Professionals (DSP), including developing and monitoring weekly staff schedules.
- Ensure the development and implementation of individuals’ habilitation goals, including Life Plans (behavioral plan goals), Staff Action Plans; and that outcomes are documented accurately and timely.
- In addition to advising the Manager, reports and/or initiates investigations of any incidents/accidents or emergencies in accordance with mandated procedures required by NYS Justice Center and Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD).
- Review and sign daily communication logs to ensure all incidents are appropriately addressed.
- Ensure that all individuals’ medical appointments are attended and completed.
- Assist with developing seasonal menus in compliance with the individuals’ dietary needs.
- Assist with supervising the maintenance, cleaning and proper functioning of the physical plant.
- Make regular rounds with the manager/director/nurse to assure the safety and good health of the individuals.
- Ensure that behavioral assessments, daily activity logs and monthly reports are properly maintained and/or updated.
- Assist with safeguarding individuals’ and agency funds and ensuring that accurate records of expenditures are properly maintained.
- Ensure monthly fire drills are conducted and that all staff members participate in a minimum of one fire drill per year.
- Serve as advocate for the individuals and ensure their rights are protected; as well as encourage positive community relations.
- Attend all mandatory meetings and trainings.
- Perform related duties as needed.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Health and Human Services or related field with 1-2 years of experience working with the IDD population;
OR
- Associate degree in Health and Human Services or related field with 3-5 years of experience working with the IDD population.
- Must have a keen sense of observation and maintain composure under pressure. Must be dependable and punctual; as well as have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal skills, as well as a strong sense of teamwork.
- SCIP, AMAP, CPR and First Aid certificates required.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
- Valid NYS drivers’ license.
Physical Abilities
Ability to see at normal distance, hear normal conversations and sounds. Physical ability to bend, squat, sit on floor, climb stairs, skip and run.
Use hands and fingers to fill out required forms on regular paper and use computer keyboard and other office machines/equipment.
Ability to safely and occasionally lift 40 lbs. to 100 lbs., when needed.
