Are you looking to get back into the workforce? Or perhaps looking for your next great job? If you answered "yes" to either question, then you are invited to attend this upcoming event.
The NY Works Career Expo will be held on Thursday May 29, 2014 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Hostos Community College. The event will feature at least 75 businesses offering thousands of job opportunities.
Developing a strong workforce is vital to our state's success. Since 2011, Governor Cuomo and his teams from the State Labor Department and Empire State Development have worked together to pair industries that need talented workers with people, like you, who are looking for new opportunities.
As a result, New York State's economy has created more than 440,400 private sector jobs in the last three years and New York is one of only 17 states to have regained all of the private sector jobs lost during the recession. Unemployment rates are declining across the state. However, while we've seen marked declines in every borough of New York City, the Bronx is still plagued with one of the highest unemployment rates in the state. That's why the state will hold its annual New York City career fair - New York Works Career Expo - in the Bronx.
Space is limited so all interested job seekers are strongly encouraged to pre-register. You must select an arrival time as part of the pre-registration process. Job Seekers who arrive at a different time may not be able to gain admission if attendance is as large as expected.
Several businesses will offer on-site interviews with company representatives. Keep checking the NYS Department of Labor website for an updated list of participating companies. Computers will also be available at the event for job seekers to go online and apply for various positions.
Prior to this event, make sure to visit one of the area's Career Centers for assistance with updating your resume or brushing up on your interview skills.
Admission is free so mark your calendar and don't miss this exciting event!
